&lt;br&gt;
In 1850, the US was only 5% Catholic; in 1917, the US was 14% Catholic; and in 2005, the US was 25% Catholic. Each year in the US, 150,000 adults (equivalent of Kansas City) join the Catholic Church. &lt;br&gt;
&lt;br&gt;
Between 1971 and 2000, the number of Catholics in the South nearly doubled, increasing faster than the total population in the region. In the next 20-30 years, Catholics will overtake Southern Baptists as the religion with the most adherents in the Bible Belt.&lt;br&gt;
